Worth considering that anyone using the above method with a paypal card reader, who isn't registered self employed and fully disclosed would be absolutely caught up for money laundering as well as tax avoidance if/when they were found out.

HMRC are becoming very skilled at finding people who use PayPal for business purposes but haven't registered with HMRC as self-employed.
