Choose an independent, take your time and pick carefully, swap a couple of mails, talk on the phone... If it still all goes to pot, ask for a partial refund within the first 10 minutes. If you go over that, do the best you can and write it off as a learning experience.

About the only thing I'd add to that is confirm what you want before handing over the cash as well, but as CL says if it still doesn't go well and your refused a refund there's not a lot you can do, it's really not worth getting into a confrontation because if there are other girls in the place death by stiletto is probably not the best way to checkout.
