Research - please read before getting angry
#1
Dear all,

My name is Susann Huschke, I am researcher based at Queen's University Belfast. I am very aware that most of you will a) either ignore this post, or b) get annoyed. I decided to try this anyways because I do want this research to be as good as possible, and excluding Adultwork from it would just be stupid.

So, here's the deal:
I am the lead researcher for a study commissioned by the Northern Irish Department of Justice. The aim of the study is to get an understanding of the local sex industry (as well as a better picture of the sex industry across the British Isles) in order to inform policy. As I am sure many of you are aware, there are currently discussions about criminalizing paying for sex here in Northern Ireland (see similar discussions in the Republic of Ireland, and a few years ago in Scotland, too).

Among one of the critiques of the proposed legislation is that it isn't informed (enough) by research in and around Northern Ireland. That's the gap we're trying to fill.

This study is an opportunity for both sex workers and clients to have their voices heard.

Taking part is anonymous and confidential. We don’t need to know your real name. If we use quotes or information from your response in the report we will write, they will be anonymised so that that your are not identified.

There is two ways of taking part: 1) having a face-to-face conversation with me (if you have paid or sold sexual services in Northern Ireland), and 2) taking part in an online survey (see links below - here it doesn't matter where you live and work!). You can also take part in both.

You will not be paid to participate in this research project. This is an opportunity for you to have your voice, experience and issues heard. You are free to not answer questions that make you uncomfortable.

Online surveys
Please take part – the more responses, the better the study! Anyone who has paid for or sold sexual services in the UK or Ireland can take part – you don’t have to have paid/offered sex in Northern Ireland.

Note: Please do not post this link on other websites or forums without discussing this with the researcher (Dr Susann Huschke) first. We need to ensure that we don’t get any ‘fake responses’!

Just so anyone looking at his knows, I have done the survey face to face with Susann and feel really positive about this survey. With real collated information they will be able to dispel the myths with real data and if the information is broad enough (covering all nationalities and ages) then it really could make a difference in the future with the battle against prostitution and those that use their services.

Please don't hesitate to spend some time filling in the survey. Your answers really could make a difference!

It would really help if the links worked....

I thought there had been discussions about criminalizing paying for sex in England, as well?

You are right about saying "Among one of the critiques of the proposed legislation is that it isn't informed (enough) by research", as most of the information they get is from prostitutes that need assistance / help through drug use centres, criminal activities etc... This is only a small percentage of the girls actually working in the business.
