What is tax deductible? Manicures? Cosmetic surgery?
#1
I am about to start declaring my income and paying Self Employed NICs etc. AW is my only income.

Obviously I want to pay as little tax as possible, now the reason I do this is so that I can afford the treats I miss from when I had a well paid job, and I like to make an effort so can I claim facials (not the sperm kind), skincare & beauty products, manicures, pedicures, false tan or even cosmetic surgery (considering a boob job) as tax deductible expenses? As well as any toys/lingerie bought to use for work. Surely in this line of work appearance is important, so how much can we get away with before the Inland Revenue get too curious? Guessing I can't reclaim VAT as we don't charge any VAT (or does AW include any VAT in our fees?), but if I can I will reclaim VAT too.

I have run a business before so am fairly familiar with doing my own accounts and just handing them to an accountant at the end of the year, but not sure if I'd even need to do that for this.

I personally only claim for things I can prove are 100% business related, like
Website fees
Work laptop
Work Camera
Webcam
Storage equipment (ssd card)
File hosting
Accountant fees
Accounting software
Broadband & Phone (I have separate line to our home connection)
Business mobile (payg used soley for ringing customers)
Promotional costs like AW featuring, hourly positioning, daily pay fees and any online advertising
I also claim petrol for trips to my accountant (when i had one) and to other girl's houses when recording clips together etc
And a tiny portion for household utilities (£3 per week)

I haven't done it personally but you could have a good case for claiming for very specific fetish related gear, like whips, pvc, latex etc, if you can show that you would not normally dress or use anything like that outside of work.

i do not claim for lingerie, sex toys, beauty treatments, or professional photography as these could be classed as being for personal use as well. Many camgirls do but the reason I'm not comfortable with it is because i wasn't very organised in my first year and don't have receipts to prove everything i've spent on, or very good records. I never want to be in a position with HMRC where they are scrutinising everything and I can't give them what they need and end up owing thousands. So i'd rather be frugal with my claims.

Theoretically you can claim for absolutely anything you like. But you better have receipts and good records for it in case HMRC do ever come knocking!

Boob jobs are definitely not claimable unfortunately, or any cosmetic surgery. I asked HMRC directly after i had mine done.

You won't pay VAT unless you earn above 70k x

You may also be able to claim for condoms, sex toy and batteries.
The list is endless really and I know girls who claim for all underwear, stockings, bikinis etc. However you may have to prove that these items can only be used for work purposes and nothing else.
Most people with 'a uniform' can prove this as it will have a company name or something on it but our stuff is a bit more difficult to prove.
I have a receipt for a pair of red patent heels that I wouldn't dare were out in public as they are just not me, they are popular for camming but how would I ever prove to the tax man that I had not worn them in my private life! Its impossible and I wouldn't want to try to argue with the HMRC as I doubt I'd win!
Same with sex toys, how can I prove I'd only ever used them on cam and never alone or with my bf, haha!

Well my Uncle and my dad both work for HMRC but I daren't ask them! I am good at keeping receipts and records, and there is probably a lot I can claim for like KatieBaby says that are easy to justify. Shame about the boob job though Wink

If you have to work at or from home you can get tax relief for the extra household expenses that you have to pay. Typically these extra expenses include:
• the extra cost of gas and electricity to heat and light your work area
• business telephone call
• internet
• office equipment
• water bill

Yes! I have been doing that for years. My accountant used to work for HMRC and told me everything I could claim for, utilities are calculated as a % and it's based on the number or rooms in your house exc bathrooms. I can't remember the formula, I'm sure it's on the HMRC website some where, but using their formula I claim 7% of all my house hold utilites.

As has been said above you can claim for anything at all. But it's best to be able to back in up in case you are ever audited. In regards to household bills, these links are handy
