Cam on a Mac
#1
Hi, I downloaded the camming software from aw but when I try to open it a message comes up saying that its Microsoft software and not compatible. It gave me the option for cam lite but when I click that link a box opens up but its just blank grey.

Has anyone else had this issue and if so how do I resolve it without splitting my mac 50/50 safari/microsoft?

Answers appreciated in advance guys and girls x

I cam on my mac, but have bootcamp on it so use my pc side of it, you can cam via justcamitlite, but you must download all the up to date adobe flash etc and its not as good for camming as the pc part xx

It took me ages to work it out, and then I inadvertantly uninstalled the software, and haven't tried to reinstall it...

I'll re-read the instructions and get back to you.

Failing that you might have to install windoze using either bootcamp or parallels but that is such an inelegant way to do it.

OK, got it going again..
First of all, make sure you have the most recent versions of Silverlight and Adobe Flash Player
If you use firefox as a browser go to tools/addons then click the link on that page that says check my add ons are up to date. (I would also ensure you have the latest version of Java as the last one was disabled by Apple as it had a security flaw)

Log in to AW, and select available to webcam today (if your profile is set up to offer webcam services already, if not adjust your profile) when you are set up for offering services there is a link at the top right of the screen that goes to the justcamit flash based website (you can get there by googling justcamit as wel)

Then go to the AW help pages, search for direct cam settings, the first help article is "What settings do I need to login to direct cam" in the answer is a link (the word here) that opens a new page that is personal to you, and has 3 pieces of info, the server name, your personal account ID, and your username (it also tells you to use your password)

On the direct cam website click in the box that says connect to webcam. You may get a pop up from adobe flash player asking to use your camera and microphone, if so press accept (this took me some time, as it decided to go slow)

Your iSight camera will turn on (the led turns green) and a picture will appear in the box that said click to connect webcam.

Under the webcam picture highlight the login tab, and enter the details from the AW help page (server, id number, username and password)

At that point you should now be showing on the directcam available now pages, and should start getting clients.

There is another page on AW where you can change the settings for things like free previews, group and private prices etc.

Hope that helps, and happy camming

When using http://www.videochat.tv - also click on the tab that says 'my cam' then make sure under the 'camera' section that you have 'FacetimeHD Camera - built in' selected - when I first started using it, it would be blank and I'd have to manually select it each time - now for some reason it's decided to remember it!
