Thank you for your contribution dandandan... I think it's important to hear all sides, even if we disagree, we should never stifle debate or try to silence those who have alternative points of view. I particularly liked your "addiction" analogy!
However...
Yea, that figure is way, way off the mark!
The actual incidence rate is thought to be 50 in 10,000 exposures for receptive anal intercourse.
(source: http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml...1.htm#tab1)
So that is 0.5% or a 1 in 200 chance each time you have receptive anal sex with someone who is HIV+ not 1 in 3.
... the same data shows receptive vaginal intercourse to have a risk level of 0.1%, or 1 in 1000 exposures and insertive vaginal intercourse to be half that at 0.05% or 1 in 2000 exposures... remembering, of course, that an "exposure" is not sex with some random person, but specifically with someone who is HIV positive.
Worryingly, avert estimate that of all HIV infected men who engage in sexual activities with other men, about one quarter are unaware that they are infected. Even more worryingly, more than one third of men who have sex with men who know that they are infected admit to having had unprotected intercourse with more than one partner in the last year.

So it's all scary stuff! Nothing to be complacent about at all.
However...
