Many Years Ago....

With regards to the recent "Sex Chat" Tv broadcast, when I was a young girl, a couple of "Likely lads" did a tv documentary involving prostitution / escorts. They showed off to the cameras and told all there was to know about the business. they got girls who worked for them to spill the beans and reveal how much money they made from advertising in the local paper and what they really did for their customers.

This was not news to the newspaper concerned, they already knew what the girls actually did and charged them 3X the cost of any other advert in the same newspaper, but, on being presented with the facts to be revealed on national Tv they withdrew all advertising that very evening. Dead in the water, the phones went cold !!!!!

Being one of the more diverse operations advertising, I was able to get a genuine massage certificate signed off by two qualified ITEC examiners, which could be and was fully checked out for authenticity by the newspaper to re instate my advert. the certificate was not for the ITEC qualification but for their own version of a "relaxation massage" course, most of which I have long forgot and only lasted about an hour.

However, this taught me a very serious lesson in marketing, you would think that being the only advertiser in the paper would have meant me earning a vast fortune off the back of it, but no, that did not happen. As mine was the only advert, guys stopped buying that paper to look for local tarts, simple as that. The Sport newspaper changed to a daily version and the local yellow freeads advertiser also started up to save the day. the paper lost approx £2,000 a week in revenue and has never picked that back up after 20+ years. I have no idea how much they lost in daily sales from guys "looking" for a service.

Always remember, the media has their own agenda and despite what they claim, it is not always to give your point of view as they would sometimes have you believe
