I think he was probably doing it on purpose to get a rise out of you. I don't know what his preferences were obviously, but some guys like to try and embarrass, annoy and humiliate women who they might see as submissive. It's just an angle to consider, not that he was behaving appropriately. If he wanted a bit of the kinky humiliation stuff, he should have mentioned it.
