Thats awful... Makes me very upset to hear stories like this. I take professional ethics very seriously. I'm sorry you put your trust in them and they both let you down.

That is unprofessional. The counsellor is only a facilitator, not there to provide answers or dictate outcomes.
Like CBT, its more about self awareness of why you feel what you feel. By the sounds of it Nick, the only passion left is contempt. Only you know if staying together is making you and your family unhappy, and whether to go your separate ways would be best for all concerned.

Read the following passage today and had to share it with you.

If you havent told someone in your family today that you love them, what are you waiting for ...................

Here is the little passage I read :

A man came home from work late, tired and irritated, to find his 5-year old son ...waiting for him at the door.

SON: 'Daddy, may I ask you a question?'

DAD: 'Yeah sure, what it is?' replied the man.

SON: 'Daddy, how much do you make an hour?'

DAD: 'That's none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?' the man said angrily.

SON: 'I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?'

DAD: 'If you must know, I make $50 an hour.'

SON: 'Oh,' the little boy replied, with his head down.

SON: 'Daddy, may I please borrow $25?'

The father was furious, 'If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so selfish. I don't work hard everyday for such childish frivolities.'

The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door.

The man sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy's questions. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money?

After about an hour or so, the man had calmed down, and started to think:

Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $25.00 and he really didn't ask for money very often The man went to the door of the little boy's room and opened the door.

'Are you asleep, son?' He asked.

'No daddy, I'm awake,' replied the boy.

'I've been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier' said the man. 'It's been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you. Here's the $25 you asked for.'

The little boy sat straight up, smiling. 'Oh, thank you daddy!' he yelled. Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled up bills.

The man saw that the boy already had money, started to get angry again.

The little boy slowly counted out his money, and then looked up at his father.

'Why do you want more money if you already have some?' the father grumbled.

'Because I didn't have enough, but now I do,' the little boy replied.

'Daddy, I have $50 now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you.'

The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little son, and he begged for his forgiveness.

It's just a short reminder to all of you working so hard in life. We should not let time slip through our fingers without having spent some time with those who really matter to us, those close to our hearts. Do remember to share that $50 worth of your time with someone you love.

I think that is fantastic and it definately makes you think, what you have and to be grateful for, but sometimes we are just too blind to see.

Sometimes its the other way round, I work hard as a house husband, but when I try to make love to my wife, its either she doesnt feel well or she is tired. I am lucky if I get it once every 3-4 weeks, and if you keep getting knocked back it is very frustrating, but I havent turned to a prostitute yet, but maybe thats cos I cant afford it, and before anyone says anything I have applied for 100,s of jobs.

We're not here to judge people, so please don't feel you have to explain. It's tough out there at the moment. I worked an exhibition this weekend and did the same exhibition last year at the same venue. I took roughly half as much as last year, with very similar if not better stock, because no one has any disposable money any more. They are having to really cut back and perhaps have something in mind they want to buy and have saved up for it or allowing themselves to buy just a couple of items instead of throwing caution to the wind and treating themselves.

It was a real eye opener to how the recession is building up in the UK.

You're right there Kate. As I have gone around the country in my day job it's really quite depressing how frequently I'm visiting companies and hearing how they have had to layoff workers.


What is worse is to see them viewing me as some sort of life raft for their business. It makes me feel guilty for taking up their time when they should be out getting new customers. But from a purely selfish point of view the liferaft syndrome is very good for my business.

I guess you girls must have seen a downturn in your business as well? Anything that is seen as a luxury seems to be getting the heave-ho at the moment.

Yes paid sex is a luxury not a necessity.
It is amazing how some on some sex site forums see it the other way around though.

I only really started during the recession so I don't know what it was like before. In some ways I think it may have been the right time for me, as most of my clients have really done their research and considered meeting me well before they did, so they are coming to me with an idea of who I am and what I'm about and we tend to click.

Thankfully I am getting enough work to pay my bills and do a little saving, so it is fine with me. I suppose if I had been rolling in it during the gravy train days, I may be smarting a bit, but what you don't know, you don't miss.

It is said if you can make your business run during a recession, then it will work at any time!
Of course, it helps if your business is debt collection, or baliffs, or Property repossesions....

I do think some jobs lend themselves to a recession. I get a lot of electrician's, engineers, plumbers etc visit me, as people will always need this kind of service. I've also had a few property developers and surprisingly quite a lot of self employed.
