As someone who is currently dealing with police over a matter I will be more vocal about once resolved, I can only say I've found them nothing but supportive and respectful throughout, had them in my dungeon discussing all 'services' etc - they've been pillars of what we all hope the police are like up and down the UK.
As for not going to the police, ultimately that's your call. But do be aware that if you want to you can call 101 from a phone box to tell the non emergency operator what's happened/happening and ask their advice then take it from there.
And as for his threat of calling the police, what's he going to say? He was trying to rape you. I don't think they'd be concerned about his loss of cash in that instance.
