Recognising the Signs - Human Trafficking
#1
http://www.polarisproject.org/human-tra ... -the-signs

There is much discussion in the industry at the moment about criminilising the clients of sex workers to stop sex trafficking. The politicians would have us believe that the majority of sex workers are trafficked. We know that this is not true but it is good to know what the signs are of human trafficking so that we can report it, anonomously if need be.

I was thinking of posting afew nights ago about this due to a 'chat show' we have on tv here. I was disgusted at some of the comments made about prostitution and how they want to make it illegal...I am most definitely against trafficking and anything of that sort but when a lady chooses this job then I believe they have a right to do what they want and the politicians have no right to judge, life is precious and short enough especially for those of us who have experienced bereavement, illness, loss, hardship and the ultimate friendship. We will never take it for granted. Smile

I have to say that I have never come across anybody in the industry who I suspected might have been trafficed or coerced, and I've worked with a lot of girls in my time. But then I guess that these poor things most likely work at a different end of the market to most of us, so we are unlikely to?

What I have heard from guys both in forums and in real life is that they do have worrying encounters with girls sometimes. And what always upsets me is that they just think it was a rip off and the girl was a bit shit. they complain that she wasn't enthusiastic and that she was mechanical and wasn't really interested... often that she wasn't the girl in the pics, that the apartment was dingy, that there was someone else in the apartment.... and of this, they think, is because the girl is a desperate drug addict just trying to get her next fix. They never seem to think that maybe she is working against her will... I think they choose not to think that, actually... because that would make them tacitly responsible for perpetuating this girls situation. So they elect to sanitise it by making it the girls fault. But they still do it... they part with their cash and they do it anyway.

I always point out the alternative possibility when ever I hear a story like this.

Sometimes guys go white when it dawns on them.

Makes me sick, actually.... thoughtless, heartless, selfish behaviour.

I have known a few girls, in the past, that have worked on account of their boyfriends thought it was a good idea to do it, one girl also told me she gave all the money to the boyfriend to look after as she was not very good with money.

On the relationship ending most of the girls stopped working.
