First post and hers my two penneth worth on the BB question.
In New York, there is an HIV clinic that is has loads of male patients who have all caught HIV from their heterosexual girlfriends, who strangely don't want to come to the clinic, and are not known patients of the clinic.
The clinic workers have a saying. :
Q. What do you call a HIV+ heterosexual male who caught the virus from his girlfriend?
A. A liar
He's odds on, overwhelmingly and statistically a liar because the two greatest risks of contracting HIV are sharing needles and unprotected bum sex with other men. That's a fact. Bigots didn't call it the Gay Plague for nothing. The disease has not broken out amongst the wider population because the vectors are not present in the wider population.
But the risk, although small, is still real for men who partake in unprotected vaginal sex with a working girl, but probably no more, or maybe even less than a casual sexually active young woman today. Actually, it is the WG who is shouldering most of the risk, not the client.
I very nearly opted for bareback once because I was having problems with condoms. But since I took the advice of partners and WGs and invested in some larger, wider fit condoms like Magnum XL and sex is much more comfortable and pleasurable.
