I've heard that some girls like to hear a client's voice over the phone as part of their vetting process, but that seems odd to me... what can you really tell about a client from his voice? Only that he's a real person,

And an arrogant prick, depending on the way his convesation goes, you can tell a lot from a phone call, you can also get a better judge of if the guy is a timewaster, I usually get 9/10 right. If a guy comes across as pushy then you can judge if you want to give him a booking or not, when you have spoken to as many guys as I have, it is rare that you hear something that you were not being told 20 years ago by guys.

It's annoyingly stressful to not know in advance which part of town you should be in (for parking etc) well in advance. Some have left it rather late.

How would you not know? If you had already called the girl to make the booking she would have already told you what part of town she was in and I assume, have given you the street address or the postcode.
