I just put myself down as a consultant due to running a few different businesses.

It depends on what you are looking to claim for, not that it should really matter, but i never claim for any adult oriented items like clothing / sex toys etc.

Hi Sarah - I noted your comment re. "not claiming for any adult products" - in fact my accountants urged me to do so! The reason being that the tax people given they decide to check you out (which they are doing more and more of) will ring alarm bells....'wonder how you are showing the income without any costs involved'!

Myself, I claim against my income for nylons, make-up, condoms, hotels used to do photo-shoots (genuine), hotels if I do a days 'meetings' at one, on those same days fuel if it takes in traveling a few miles, food subsistence whilst at the hotel - but NEVER alcohol drinks! :-( , rail/taxi/underground fares to and from London for hotel outcalls etc.. I also obviously put my accountants fee's in each year-end and of course all costs incurred on AW throughout the year. I also keep a diary of days/weeks off, where I went to, time out for illness i.e. cold/flue,etc.
