I am so naive - it never occurred to me that it might refer to that. I've heard the expression, but I thought it had something to do with just generally "hanging out" in the sense that the younger generation hangs about in shopping centres or whilst playing video games etc.
Not sure I'd know how to answer it in the context - would it be acceptable to reply "well actually it's quite hard at the moment"
I just want to have fun
