For anyone who is remotely interested DOS stands for Denial of Service attack where the servers are artificially hit with millions of spurious requests for information, the effect is that the server basically goes into meltdown, because it can't handle all the requests.

Picture a single old fashioned telephone operator at a switchboard with every light on the board flashing or the scene from the film Bruce Almighty where Bruce is answering all the emails that are sent to God!
