Personally it is only a forum so certain posts or threads are only opinions

I doubt you would say that if you lost work from someones coloured opinion of you. Accusations made publically can be very damning and this forum is on Twitter, so many people can read it and form opinions on what is written. Opinions that are not necessarily fair.

Sorry Kate, I never use any social networking site nor am I ever liable to. I now realise where you are coming from. Opinions are always biased based on how well the people in question got on.
One persons dream time can be anothers nightmare

Based on how they get on or in some cases if the male fancies the female too. If you ever pop on to UKP you will see they are kind, thoughtful and patient with the young fillies, but make it obvious of their disgust and contempt for the older ladies. It is a similar scenario. Has the older lady actually done anything wrong? Or is she being penalised for not being their 'type'?

Please don't go down this line! What makes this forum appealing (to me, at least) is the promotion and dedication to freedom of speech!

Just like the B.N.P, for example (IMO a generally distasteful organisation for which I have absolutely nothing but pity, contempt and bemusement, I must add), we must strive to maintain the liberty of our society from a macro perspective, despite the consequential presence of 'offensive' material.

I for one aim to 'fight' to preserve the right for all individuals/groups/organisation etc to have an equal opportunity to air their views, whenever and wherever they so chose (obviously in a completely non-violent manner)

Banning, infringing, limiting and controlling the ability of those whom we ardently disagree, in the end, only feeds the egos of those seeking to be 'controversial' or 'provocative'. Let them have their say........they very often end up 'hanging' themselves with their own arguments.

Libertarianism all the way!

While I kind of agree, there is a particular problem with internet forums which doesn't exist in real life (or at least not to the same degree) in that we have the phenomenon of trolling.

Trolls don't give a damn if they can not support their argument and post inly to infuriate others... most likely they don't even believe what they are saying themselves. So the "give em enough rope" argument doesn't work because so long as they are making people get steamed up, they are happy.

And then there are the flamers who are just obnoxious and while they may well actually have a valid point to make, just can't help being abusive and nasty about it.

Both these "types" are perfectly happy to continue posting in their chosen style irrespective of the results and will never "hang themselves" because either they just don't give a damn if they upset people or else actively seek to do so. And the decent and the honest will always want to answer their stupid points and try to reason with them, rather than just ignoring them until they get bored and go away.

Of course these people are not likely to be the same in real life, but in the anonymity of an internet forum, they can do as they will.

I've been on forums which are very loosely moderated, and they just become infected with bile until it reaches a point where new users just don't stick around because they don't want to have to deal with it and all the worthwhile long service posters just go elsewhere.

So on the one hand I agree with you on the "freedom of speech" argument, and I don't think anyone should be cut down for having a point of view, but I do think that order needs to be maintained and trolls and flamers and their infected threads should be cleared out... it's a fine line though.

Besides which.... this thread you've bumped is nearly a year old and I think I'm right in saying that Trash am done gone already?

At least I can't see it anywhere (but I didn't look terribly hard).

Just a quickie note for today

Freedom of speech is a very tangible subject..(although I agree with it in principle and politically ) However, it can have a double edge effect (as mentioned )
What I dislike about it is, those who abuse the “freedom of speak” to use it to their own negative means. From a micro perspective (eg forums/adult sites) some individuals can be down right rude, use words quite cuttingly aimed to humiliate and belittle others., where disagreement do take place surely they can be resolve problems amicably. If not, such use comments shouldn’t have a right to stay foot and viewed by others without or very little due cause.
In my own humble option this forum is about receiving guidance/ helping/giving support, mixing with others cammers, escorts, users of services a like.
I am so grateful for this forum and for those who keep it ticking, including those who take their time to respond to others. If we allowed abusive comments to manifest people quite simply will go else where.

Well that's my say for the day

Have fun

Totally agree with you on this one.
At the end of the day if someone writes a defamatory remark about something/someone then surely you have a chance to respond? Let alone others will leap to that persons defence.

I don't have a problem with people making defamatory comments or having a pop at one another... it is good to have differences of opinion and to be able to debate them. But the anonymity of the virtual world means that people sometimes behave in ways they would not in real life, and say things they wouldn't get away with in other situations. And they can sometimes do this purely for their own amusement.

That kind of behaviour can destroy a forum's credibility.

So as much as I am anti-censorship, I think there is a strong case for forum moderation.

The forum owners will have an idea in their own minds of the direction, shape and ethos they want to foster in their forum, and it is their forum, after all.

There are plenty of internet forums and people will always find a home which suits their posting style.

I am a member of quite a few forums, some adult related, others not.

I choose to contribute to forums which are generally peaceful, but which do allow people to speak their minds in a respectful manner.

Others may choose to contribute to more inflammatory forums or to forums which are so heavily moderated that they look like a world full of hearts and flowers and puppy dogs.

A forum does not have to be all things to all men, and we can find a place which suits us.
