Guys - would you use a credit card?

Simple really - if you were going to see a girl, would you choose to use a credit card or would you rather stick with good old fashioned cash?

I thought about this right back at the start of the recession... I was a bit worried that people might find it harder to justify removing cash from their bank accounts, so I was thinking of accepting credit card payments. I asked the question on a few forums, but the general feeling seemed to be that people would prefer to stick with cash.

Anyway, I am thinking about it again now, just for convenience sake really. My area is semi-rural and cash machines are not abundant, and I have had guys say to me in the past that it is difficult to get the cash together sometimes because they can't easily take large amounts out of the cash machine in one go without questions being asked. So I wonder if £150 on the credit card statement made out to "TB services" or something might actually be easier for some. And for those who do not have discretion issues, it might just be more convenient?

I think a lot comes down to consumer confidence - I would not necessarily give an escort of a taxi driver my card details and CVV number for them to put into their phone or laptop but I'd feel a lot more secure if I personally put my card and PIN into an authorised Chip and Pin terminal that they handed to me.
Ultimately the consumer must have confidence that they are not going to be scammed and they are much more comfortable with Chip and Pin as it is a system they use consistently for other purchases.

Yes I would. Your comment about questions being asked about withdrawing large amounts of cash is a very valid one. Only downside is that use of a credit card does increase the temptation as I found out with an escort last year - three times in three days! It was great fun though!

Consider as well, there are now apps for the iPhone/iPad that allow you to take a credit card or debit card payment, just think, not having to worry about large sums of cash in the apartment, or carried on your person. Just type the card (debit or credit) into the app, and the funds transfer into your paypal account and can be instantly checked to see if they have cleared.

You should also remember than anyone visiting and paying by CC can then report it stolen/lost and the monies would be taken off again and this would leave you working for nowt.

Something else that has to be considered. I know I certainly would never use CC for work.

This is what a lot of the girls have said to us and is one of their biggest barriers to accepting cards. We offer a Chip and Pin solution which gets over this as it is recognised that the actual cardholder has to be present at the transaction to input his PIN and would find it exceptionally difficult to argue otherwise. Using Chip and Pin also transfers the liability for a chargeback from the escort back to the customers card issuing bank.

The problem with this is a) you give your credit card details to the girl to put into her phone and b) it is not Chip and Pin which subsequently opens the girl up for potential chargebacks.

Also, are PayPal confortable with these transactions or are they told it is for a different service ??
