Let me get this straight, you tell the taxman you work?? That's like doing eBay and confessing to running a business. What is this country coming to.

Do they patrol the internet looking at AW providers. Sounds like a long winded process to me.
As profiles pop up and close down in a flash.
Seriously what are the chances of a tax investigation, has it happened to anybody here?
As a punter I know its not my place but this is interesteing.

Another one that applies to anyone self-employed is going bankrupt...any situation that involves someone looking into a person's financial affairs. I guess though that HMRC would need to write to AW for confirmation of the person's identity and income. One address is in Belize and the other Gibraltar, they won't be able to force a reply and what are the odds of one being given voluntarily?

Sometimes people just amaze me...
YES - HMRC have actually busted webcam providers and escorts for TAX EVASION. Exactly the same way that they bust plumbers, electricians and other trades. Running a business or a trade is income - therefore you pay tax.
You can't use the immoral issue - cast your mind back to the Miss Whiplash case!
Do they especially target the Adult Industry - who knows; but they do go on information received from other sources - YES . Are they totally stupid? - NO.
I personally know of 2 escorts and 3 webcam ladies who have been investigated. There was also a recent newspaper article re Kirsty Summers who was working on Sport XXX and Bang Babes.
As an authorised HMRC agent I get emails weekly of cases that the HMRC has won re tax evasion. One of the roles of HMRC (whether people agree or not is of no concern) is too collect the right amount of income tax from the public. People who deliberately avoid paying tax should face the appropriate penalties.
No-one likes paying income tax, but no-one likes dieing either... unfortunately they are two things guaranteed in life. You can live a healthy life style and you can plan your business affairs accordingly to reduce tax - this is called TAX AVOIDANCE and is perfectly legal.
If you have a social media presence where you advertise your services, or you post on various adult sites then your chances of being detected (if you are not legit with HMRC) go up radically.
If you then blatantly advertise the fact that you don't pay any taxes - then I have no comment to that one. I'm sure you can guess the answer?
Sometimes you may just be lucky and get away with it; sometimes you may get a few years "free". What is the worst that can happen - do not pass go, do not collect your £200, but you do get a criminal record (unfortunately they don't come framed so they aren't even useful!).
Am I being quite harsh - NO I don't think so; I just state facts. Yes I know lots of people in this industry do not pay tax - is that of any concern to me - NO. I sort my affairs and my clients affairs out to reduce the tax bills through tax planning, not tax evasion.
Do I look over my shoulder in worry? - NO. Do I sleep soundly at night - YES.
Aren't Monday mornings lovely..............
