I view the word escort as a euphemism just a hangover from times when advertising sexual services was frowned upon it's just stuck with us, nowadays it belongs on the service/likes list I think.

That's an interesting definition of the difference w4r, thank you. I dislike the term prossie or even prostitute, but that is based on my past experience of the term being derogatory, a put down from males or other women. The women I know who 'escort' sell their time and companionship, and work for themselves, charging higher rates than average, whereas I tend to equate 'prostitute' with street walker, working for a pimp, being cheap etc. I can now also appreciate that some like yourself are almost reclaiming that term, and using it instead to indicate the difference between what you do and DONT offer x

Not sure about reclaiming it just my way of looking at it, I don't enjoy sitting round chatting with clients, it gets too personal and I am not looking to make new friends. It is also uncomfortable as they start to want to know more about you, your life etc...

Definitions, meanings can change over time.

When I first started working, I advertised under the heading Massage, as did most girls, the escort ads were agencies or independent girls that only offered a visiting service.

Then we got the internet.... And the term sex worker got introduced.

No word is derogatory or complimentary.What makes it either is intent,its the way they mean the word.That is what makes all the difference.For some its written or said with venom and hatred.Then the word takes on a whole new meaning.

A lot of truth in that, there are AW service providers who incorporate words like slut and whore in their usernames I've not come across a slag yet but I'm sure there is one, these are not terms I would ever use though, wg suits me fine.

It depends who's saying them too! I guess it's a bit like how we can say tranny, but we don't like non-trans people to say it generally, unless we're being paid haha

If the person themselves is saying it then they're kind of reclaiming it, making it part of their identity. Someone else saying it is more likely to mean it in a derogatory manner, and it can be kind of uncomfortable even if they aren't. Most sex workers I know don't like the term prostitute either way, and is considered more offensive than "whore" in fact.
