UK to block pornsites by default

https://www.theverge.com/2018/3/12/17108...nd-of-year

Compulsory age verification checks to be rolled out by the end of the year. I am surprised that such a planned massive change to the internet and still a lot of people aren't aware of the plans.

What are your thoughts on this? How will this affect adultwork? Will we need to give our card details to prove our age to adultwork or will we all be using VPNs?

Do you think what the UK Government is planning will even be practicle?

I've been following, campaigning, signing petitions etc for a good long while now and with the eleventh hour approaching my pretty much final thoughts on the matter can be summed up: If people want access to pornographic websites online they just need to be accountable. That's all.

Prove your age, have the awkward conversation with your partner, stop viewing porn on company time..... whatever. If people want access to their porn it's there for the taking. Or is the entire industry supposed to die or slowly decay in the shadows because people are too shy or childish to admit they consume adult content?

We'll see where the cards fall.

I don't want to prove my age by giving porn sites card details or passport or whatever. There will be a big database kept of all these people and it will be of interest to hackers who can use it for blackmail etc, it will only be time before this list is leaked online.

If hackers want something enough nothing is safe online. In 2007 the BNP member list was compromised and leaked online, in 2011 card details from people who used the PSN were leaked, in 2015 the Ashley Madison member list was leaked. And the list of people who verified their age to look at porn I envision will be leaked before the end of this decade. And my details are not going to be on it, especially since I visit adultwork and I'd rather not have my neighbours, everyone who knows me and the whole world know that I verified my age to use an escort website.

And what are the Government going to do about sites that don't advertise as porn sites, but do have adult material or means of sharing porn? This includes message boards and file sharing sites and apps Will the Government block them too? Wil the Government block email too to stop people sharing porn via email? Where will it end?

For sites that don't comply with offering age verification the UK Government plans to block them outright, making them only accessible via a VPN, Tor or proxy.

Oct is 5 months away, enough time for me to start researching what the best VPNs are.

A big flaw with the whole idea is the Government are saying it is to stop underage people looking at porn. What they don't seem to realise is millenials are actually being brought up with technology and will become far more tech-savvy than the middle-aged guys who will try to implement this. The other big flaw is that by trying to enforce a ban or block of some sort may just make porn even more of a forbidden fruit and make it even more desirable (try and stop someone getting something they desire and they will just want it even more).

IMO what the Government should be doing instead is pushing for greater sexual education, try to lose the stuck-up prudishness that comes with being British and encourage young people to be able to talk openly about sex-related topics.

A quick example Germany is a lot more open about sex that the UK is, they have sex shops and brothels everywhere yet their rate of teenage pregnanices per x of the population is much lower than ours.

Instead of banning porn we should all be more open and talk about it.

You're not dim it's confusing. It means people wanting to access online porn will need to prove their age, like they would have to if they purchased a porno mag from the newsagent. But because verifying their age will be done digitally that means their information will be stored which is what some people have an issue with, understandably.

Sites won't get blocked unless they fail to comply with the law. AW has already announced mandatory age verification for all members, which is great! We'll be fine. Personally I will age verify with any sites that I need to to access whatever I want online, I don't really have a problem with it, if the info got leaked and people knew I was on the porn list..well...so what, we'll all be on the bloody list won't we?? Who doesn't watch porn?

It sounds like the government want to control absolutely everything: we are the most watched nation on earth and yet they tell us the CCTV is not working or grainy if there is a problem. And this is just an example.

That's exactly what it is. It's not about protecting children. It's not even about a war on sex workers. It's about eroding your rights, bit by bit. The government are basically dictating what you can and can't see online. And they use "child protection" because who's going to argue when it comes to ensuring children are safe, right?

But look deeper - it's far more than that. Far more.
